This Apple Crisp recipe doesn’t contain any flour or oats but is just as delicious!
Paleo, Low Carb, Vegan, Gluten Free, Grain Free, Dairy Free
I was asked recently what my favourite dessert was.
My first answer is always, carrot cake! But my next favourite is actually apple crisp! I love warm apple crisp with cool coconut ice cream (or coconut whipped cream will do!) It’s so comforting, especially in the cooler months.
A few months ago, I had cut out fruit completely from my diet. For some reason, I thought the less carbs I ate, the better, and since fruit is higher in carbs, I avoided it. This led to some pretty funky symptoms: hair falling out, lack of energy, mood swings. That’s when I knew I needed to add more carbs back into my diet.
Since adding in fruit (apples, berries, bananas, etc.) I feel so much better! I’ve also added in sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, and plantains. Yes, I still eat lower carb, higher fat, but a life without any fruit or potatoes is a boring life to me I’m focusing on what makes ME feel good, not what someone tells me I “should” be eating.
Anyway…
I was happy to add apples back into my eating plan. Apples are delicious, they taste like candy to me. Plus, they are full of fiber!
But since I don’t eat grains, I wanted to make this apple crisp without flour and oats.
This is where almond flour and coconut flour come in handy! These two flours are delicious, especially when you bake with them.
Combine the flours with fresh apples and some spices and you’ve got yourself a delicious, gluten free, grain free, dairy free dessert.
